I didn't enjoy this book as much as her first, Cane River. It was still a good read and was very interesting. I just didn't find myself as invested in the families as I did when reading Cane River.

Family saga, second novel by the author who wrote CANE RIVER. A blend of historical fact and deeply moving fiction, going back to 1873

I loved the way it followed her family. It starts at the Colfax Riot and follows the ups and downs of the family.

april 13, 1873. What happened that day in the small southern town of colfax, Louisiana, was called "The Colfax Riot." But it was something far more devasting.....Weaving together history and the story of her family, Lalita Tademy.
