This book contains five Christmas stories by some of the best writers in romantic fiction.
The Christmas Ghost by Sandra Heath is the story of how Rebecca Winterbourne finds her true love through the intervention of her father's ghost. I'm not generally a fan of ghost stories, but the main characters were compelling enough to make this an enjoyable story.
The Rake's Christmas by Edith Layton is about a jaded war hero who attends an idyllic house party in the country and accidentally falls in love with the woman he thinks is intended for another. Layton never disappoints and if the heroine, Eve, is a little bland, the hero, Ian, makes up for it with charm, wit, and, of course, good looks.
Lady Bountiful by Laura Matthews is, in my opinion, the weakest of the lot. The romance is gentle to the point of blandness and the sparks fail to fly.
A Mummer's Play by Jo Beverly is the story of Justina Travers and her plot to enact revenge on the man she holds responsible for the death of her fiance in the war. When she actually meets the infamous Lucky Jack Beaufort, Justina has to revise her opinion and love transforms them both. Beverly is a master story-teller and A Mummer's Play is entirely satisfying.
The Surprise Party by Mary Balogh concerns three orphans. Their maternal uncle and paternal aunt, while enjoying a mutual hatred for each other, learn to work together to care for the children and in the process fall in love. Balogh's story is sweet, spicy and thoroughly enjoyable.
Overall, good storytelling and a lovely way to spend an evening or two by the fire.

A very nice addition to my collection of Christmas anthologies. Nothing heavy handed, just a lot of romance and cheer for the holidays.
