This book, my first by Jance, was a very happy surprise. I had never imagined that an author could combine almost-cozy with police procedural and get such an entertaining result, not too saccharine and just gritty enough to be believable. I liked the western setting, and the good characters, Brady herself in particular. I sometimes had a bit of trouble keeping up with all the names--husband, kids, dogs, horses, townspeople, cops--and every name seemed to have at least a little backstory, but that didn't keep me from enjoying the fast-paced narrative. I'm not sure I'll go back and start the series from the beginning, but I definitely want to read more of Jance's work.
