Ok, this may go back a long time.  I think I read this book before 1990.  The heroine's mother gets raped at the beginning of the book and gets pregnant.  She finds an unsuspecting husband and they raise the child-Charity.  The father dies and has relatives in the "new world" so she goes there to meet them.  They are quakers, the boy rapes her and then they accuse her of witchcraft.  With the help of another inmate, she manages to escape.  Does anyone remember the name of this book?  I can see the cover in my mind, but I just can't remember the title!  Please help!!!

I remember reading this in high school too.  It was a good story.  Like her other ones as well.

I remember that I had a trade size paperback on it and the cover eventually fell off and then the book itself fell apart!  But, then you get married, have kids, blah, blah and then I wanted to reread and couldn't remember the name.  Could only see the cover in my head!  :)  But, after I finally found the name, I ordered the book from a member and should get it anyday now!  I am so backed up on reading, I don't know if I will ever catch up!  Take care!

Oh no!  I remember mostly the beginning of the book, and since it was one of the first romance books I ever read, I remember being surprised at the ending.  I had read a couple that didn't have happy endings, and I remember wondering why people kept reading romance books, if the books kept making you depressed!  So, this was one of the first that I read that had a happy ending!

The very first romance novel I read was The Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen Woodiwiss.  Still have it.  I was in 8th grade,  My Spanish teacher gave it to me. That was in 1973....LOL...

Oohhhh,I was so upset when I found out she had died.  She has always been my favorite and I have loved Cole Latimer since I read Ashes in the Wind!!  I kept delaying reading her last book because I knew it was the last one!!!  I dread the day when Julie Garwood and Johanna Lindsey stop writing!!  Speaking of which-can anyone recommend a good historical author?  I have read all of Gardwood and Lindsey.  Have read some McNaught  and Deveraux (can't remember if any of theirs are historicals though).   I like ones that are tied together so you can keep up with characters from previous books.  I LOVE the Mallorys by Lindsey!!  I have to buy those everytime they come out!  I also got my mom hooked on those.  I also like Bertrice Small, but I have to remember not to get to attached to some of her characters as they can sometimes die!

Thank you for posting that link, Jane! I have been busy with life recently and want to get back to enjoying a new romance once in a while, but my favorite authors seem to have gone off on a tangent or stopped writing, so looking for something new.
