A two part novel. In part one, you are introduced to Laine Tavish, known to the folks in Angel's Gap, Maryland, as the proprietor of Remember When, an antique treasures and gift shop. They have no idea she used to be Elaine O'Hara, daughter of the notorious con man Big Jack O'hara. But Laine's past has just caught up with her. Her long lost uncle has visited her shop, leaving a cryptic warning before dying in the street, run down by a car. Soon afterward, Laine's home is ransacked. In Part Two, Detective Eve Dallas is on the case in New York City in 2059. The treasure that Laine and Max sought has never been fully recovered. And now someone else is pursuing the missing part...someone who's willing to kill for it.

Really good book! I got it because I adore the J.D Robb series. I have had it forever and never read it because...I don't know, I guess I thought it would just be a short story and wouldn't really be about the 'In Death' series. But that was not true at all and it was great. The first story was good too and the 'In Death' one just continued from it. Very good.

In this mystery, written by both Nora Roberts and her alter-ego persona, J.D. Robb, stolen diamonds are the background for two inter-related stories. In part one, Nora Roberts spins a tale about millions of dollars of diamonds, the daughter of a thief, the insurance investigator, the con-man father, and the murdering psychopath hunting them all. In part two, fifty-something years have passed and the action switches from the sleepy Maryland town of the first part to New York. Lt. Dallas begins by investigating a murder during a supposed B & E, but quickly realizes that the current crimes are merely backstory to a search for the remaining quarter of the diamonds missing from the original heist.

I love the aspects of Peabody and Dallas trying to figure out their new partnership!

AS usual J.D. Robb is a terrific FAST read!!! BUT!!,the kicker is--the first ( and probably the best ) part is written by Nora Roberts..
J.D ( a psuedonim)..Together it is one of her/their best...Jim Cole
