There is a thread titled "Post deals and show off your shelf here!" that is for that purpose.  This is a discussion forum and is not intended for advertising deals.

Sigh...I was just thinking late last week how nice it had been lately, and then suddenly there's been a huge rash of deal postings.  Just thought a reminder was in order...

They really come in waves, don't they?  Thanks for posting, I hate to always be the forum hall-monitor. ;-)

Also, I think that as members of the forum, we should avoid ordering from anyone who posts a deal in a separate thread - it only encourages posts like that.

I was thinking the same thing...we had none for a while then a huge wave of posts for deals. heck I love deals but like reading the posts that are on topic more!

Thanks for posting this reminder, hopefully people see it. It seems to be mostly people who get a batch of romance books from elsewhere and just start their own threads without taking a second to see there's a thread for that- it's rude and presumptuous (especially when they include comments like "I don't read this sort of thing but I figured you guys would want them.") Either that or they think their books are so special they shouldn't have to share a thread? ;) And yes, replying in the thread to the deals doesn't help either.

Sorry if I sound mean and angry, I just dislike it when people don't take 30 seconds or less to skim the threads on the first page of a given forum.

I agree with you, Stephanie.

This is one of the few forums that allows posts for deals (other than Book Bazaar).  So it would be nice if people could adhere to the rules of the forum!

I think it's just a matter of not being accustomed to the forum & some don't use it regularly enough (or at all) to catch on to this, and then probably not being aware of the rule about where to post deals either.  I don't think anybody who does it means any harm.  They just don't realize it's a no-no.

That's what I think as well.  In the past when this (posting deal) has happened and it's been mentioned to please only post deals in that specific thread, I make a point of not ordering from that poster IF they get all pissy about it.

Lol.  I'm all for reminders.  I just think we should be gentle with them:P  I don't get offended when someone who doesn't read romance finds themselves with a boxload of romance novels and thinks to offer them over here first either, but that's just me.  I mean, what if some mystery reading guy inherits a box full of old, out of print Mary Balogh or Georgette Heyer books from cleaning out his mom's garage or something?  I'd be thrilled to death if he happened to think of offering them to us before he posts them FIFO.  Maybe spank him, but see that he enjoys it:P

*ETA:  But seriously...  My vote is that we don't order from the threads, but if we inbox the person, we include a gentle reminder about where to post deals.  And obviously, if it's someone who does it frequently and doesn't seem to be catching on, try something a little more forceful:P

As I don't visit here often, I didn't realize there were rules regarding that.

Might I make a suggestion?

I don't recall seeing this thread for posting deals. Is there a way to make this thread 'stick' at the top?  Even with a small reminder that in this forum, it's the only place to place 'deals'. This would be helpful for people who aren't familiar with this site. (not saying it'll stop everybody...but maybe lessen it)

BTW, I appreciate the call for 'gently' reminding people who post accidentally.  As the saying going...something about honey and flies...or is that carrot not a stick? I don't remember.

You get my drift. :)

I think people have asked for a sticky thread many times, but the Powers That Be are always too busy to get it done.

yeh, w hen I first joined here I t hink I posted ad eal here as well or asked for a book..cant' remember..I either did it or almost did it and I can see not being familiar with the rules..and  no way I can say I've read those suckers either..Ilove to read but not boring rules! :-) so I can certainly see how someone getting a huge box of romance books thinking they're doing a favor posting 'hey I've got this huge box of what ya'll like'...but after being here a while and reading all the awesome threads about specific types of romance, different parts of a guy!, how to travel with a vibrator, and well just all the cool stuff and knowing the last posts get pushed off the pages forever :-( every time a new post is made..well not so bad when it's another good post and some aren't really that relevant (like our old 'what we're reading' but to lose one for a deal post that's only temporary (til the deal is over) it's sad...the other day Iwent through (at work of course!) and bumped a lot that I remember being popular..we have a lot of new people who weren't around when they started and thought they'd enjoy seeing some of the popular threads..I didn't get anywhere close to finishing though and there were some I wasn't sure about and a whole bunch I know I missed.

I've asked the PBS team for a stickied thread for the purpose of deals.  That is actually on their to do list for all the genre forums to keep them from being overrun with deal posts.  They just haven't gotten to it yet.

A gentle reminder and a bump of the "post your deals here" thread would help in the meantime.

This needs another bump to the top to push down some deal threads.
