This book focuses on a different group of inhabitants of Pern...the traders and the holdless. One of these people...a young man...meets a young woman who can telepathically talk to dragons, and must find a way to protect her from those that would use her for their own evil ends. This is a good read and gives the reader a chance to read about someone than the Dragonriders and their associates.
I first read this book when it came out in 1989 and only recently read it again. It is a great addition to the history of Pern and it's descendents from old Earth. To go from a technological society to an agrarian and partially back is quite and adventure. I recommend reading all of McCaffery's books in chronological order
According to an "official" guide, this book is #12 of 16.
Ann McCaffrey's books are alway readable and well crafted. The story is good and the outcome is believable. Good action and the story moves right along. Hard to put down.
Deals with those who were holdless, for a variety of reasons, during the beginning years of Threadfall. Almost the same period as DragonDrums but from different viewpoints. Sets up just right for the following book, All the Weyrs of Pern. Looking forward to it.
Nothing bad but nothing really great. If you wanted to know what happens to Peimur, this is the book for you though.
"The Renegades of Pern" continues the story begun in "Dragonflight" and is the first one to be primarily about ordinary people on Pern, not dragonriders or harpers. It ends with the discovery of the computer system that will lead to finally defeating the planet-wide threat of "Thread."
I had read my paperback copy so many times that it was falling apart and I was glad to replace it with a hardback.
A band of renegades, led by Lady Thella, rose from the ranks of criminals and the disaffected and pursued Aramina, who had a telepathic link to the dragons, as their quarry.
This is Science fiction/Fantasy and one of my all time favorite authors.
Aramina whose telepathic link with the dragons has helped save several trader caravans and holdless people from Thread is on the run from Lady Thella's renegades. Jayge tries to stop Lady Thella and protect Aramina.
A dangerous woman's desire for revenge and a young girl's talent for hearing dragons become the catalysts that challenge the old traditions of Weyr, Hold, and Hall that have long defined life on Pern.
Great addition to the Pern series.
