From the back of the book:

This book brings together eight provocative theorists who have, from a variety of perspectives, reflected on the education implications of the profound challenges of the late twentieth century created by dramatic development in science, technology, and global communications; by cultural, political, and economic realignments; and by the threat of ecological devastation. They share a fundamental conviction that "restructuring" today's schools falls far short of the moral and cultural renewal that is urgently required. They believe that it is unforgivably petty and small-minded for educators to concern themselves with technical and managerial problems, and argue that we need to radically examine our culture's underlying assumptions and convictions about the nature and purposes of schooling.
