I received  a book request on Monday, came to site today (wed) and request is not on my account page.  I'm assuming member changed their mind and no longer wants the book.  Just a general question, how many days do I have to respond to a request.  I am not checking my emails or this site every day.  I really don't want to miss any requests but because of work schedule I can't always get to a computer. This is the first time a request has disappeared.  db

You have 2 days to accept a request. If you go to your Transaction Archive you would be able to see if the member cancelled the request or if the request came in before Monday when you saw it but had timed out by the time you came back on Wednesday. The Transaction Archive will show what happened.

Did you post the book very recently?

You have five days to respond to a book requested from your shelf and two days to respond after you posted a WL book.

I have had 2 requests that I made and they both have disappeared. I have rc about writing and stuff so I guess they were cancelled for rc. But the 2 books have not appeared in my transaction record yet.

Jo, thanks for the correction, I forgot it was 5 days for a non-WL book. Charles, books with RCs that are rejected do not show up in your Transaction Archive unless the member accepted the request and then said they can't mail.

You can check under club communications. If an order was cancelled, it would show up there.

Yes, you can check your Transaction Archive for the canceled request, or your Club Communications folder for the "canceled" email. Both are linked from the yellow bar near the top of your main My Account page.

BTW: Senders always have 5 days to accept a request; a requestor has 2 days to accept a Wish List offer.

From the Help Center:

Swapping Deadlines

Here is a list of deadlines associated with the PBS swapping process:

  • A sender has 5 days* to respond to a request.
    • After accepting a request by clicking "I can mail in the next 2 days", a sender has 5 days to mark the book mailed. The deadline is at the end of the fifth day.

    • After accepting a request by clicking "I can mail later" and choosing an alternate mailing date, a sender has 2 days beyond the alternate mailing date to mark the book mailed. The deadline is at the end of the second day.

  • A requestor has 48 hours to respond to an offer of a book from her Wish List.
  • A book has 26 days from the "mailed" date to get to its destination within the contiguous US before it is declared "lost in the mail" at PBS.
  • A book sent from or to outside the contiguous US (AK, HI, GU, VI, PR, APO/FPO/DPO, etc)  has 35 days from the "mailed' date to get to its destination.

*The PBS system works on calendar --not business-- days. Members need to keep postal holidays and their own schedules in mind when accepting a request and choosing the mail-by date.
