I usually wait 3-4 days, then I send a polite PM asking if they received the book and if everything is OK with the book. I have never had anyone object to my PM's. Mostly the book gets marked received shortly after my PM. And often the person who received the book sends me a return PM thanking me for the reminder. |

Just keep in mind that it doesn't mean it was delivered to the right address. One of the books lost enroute to me shows a deliver scan in my local (at tthe time) town. But I never saw the book. Don't know where they left it-but it wasn't in my mail box or at my house. I always wondered if maybe one of my neighbors got it, forgot about and then was too embarrassed to give it to me. |

People do go out of town also...patience is a virtue here at PBS. I would not PM them until it is two or three days away from going lost. |

If you have DC and the PO has marked it delivered ... then I would wait a week before PMing. People go on vacation or business trips, or have their mail delivered to PO boxes instead of their homes .... so you should give them a chance to mark it received. Without DC, I do not PM until 3 or 4 days before it is going to get marked lost in the mail. I received a PM this morning about a book that was mailed to me apparently on 11/2 (without DC). I amswered it politely (I have not yet received the book) but I found it kind of annoying to be messaged about this so soon. The book is not scheduled to go lost until 11/29! And no matter that some books arrive more quickly than normal ... I have ordered tons of books from here and I find that most Media Mail arrives about 2 weeks after it is mailed. It is true, sometimes it arrives within that first week ... but not mostly. |

I like Sara's suggestion, 7 to 10 days after DC shows delivery. Without DC, shortly before going lost. Unfortunately, in the case of a mis-delivery (such as Mary's) the longer the book is missing, the less likely USPS will find it. |

Sometimes it doesn't get delivered to the right place. Sometimes an empty envelope gets delivered (which happened to me recently). In that case the book will go lost, but the recipient should PM you about it. |

The Help Center doc If a book you sent hasn't been marked received yet... discusses this situation and recommends PMing a few days after the scan. I would say that a book scanned delivered on the 2nd is perfectly fine to PM on at this point. I always PM 7-10 days after that scan. I wouldn't wait until the system action date if that is a long way off, I would rather PM quick enough that if it is mis-delivered the carrier might be able to track it down. Just remember to be polite and not accusatory, some members respond badly if they feel they are being accused of having the book and not marking it. I PM about a week after it's been marked delivered, and simply state that the confirmation shows delivery and ask that if has not yet been delivered that they check with their PO in case there is a problem and/or while the odds are still good of them locating it. I've never had a negative response, and in a couple of instances, it was either at the PO or the apartment office, but no pickup slip had been left - so they were happy to know. |

Well, in my opinion you would NEVER "ask that they mark it received" even if the DC shows it as delivered. You could PM them and ask IF they received it--because, as others have said, just because it's scanned delivered doesn't mean it was delivered to the right place. Be careful how you phrase your PM--accusing someone of getting the book but not marking it received would be the WRONG thing to do. And I would wait at least a week after the delivery scan. Cheryl |

I usually wait till after a weekend has passed as people may be away or may catch up on their paperwork over the weekend. I don't use PBS DC but use USPS DC when sending a few books and then I PM the member with the tracking ref. so they can track it also if they wish. I mailed 3 books to a member on Nov8 and the DC shows the books delivered on Nov12 but they have yet to be marked received.... think its tim to PM them. |

Since I use PBS-DC, I never send PM's to the requester. I used to but not anymore because I know that PBS will ultimately be sending them a couple of reminders. It just saves me the aggravation and since I've already received my credit, I let the system take care of it. |
