i'm fairly new here and i was just wanting to be sure that i wasn't breaking any obscure rule... my mother teaches class and needs 6 copies of a book. there are 34 available right now. is there anything wrong with me requesting 6 different copies from different people? like, is it possible? she's going to pay for the credits and all, but to buy them on ebay/amazon/etc would cost a fortune. thanks!

I don't think that would be a problem.   You aren't getting them to resell but to use.  As far as I KNOW -= it's not against the rules.

I don't think it would be a problem If it tells you, you can't order more than one you can always PM R&R, explain the situation and ask them to let you order the multiple copies.  Try searching the help section to see if there is a rule about this or not.

I'm fairly sure you can't order more than one at a time---you might try it, but I don't think it will work.  I would suggest half.com---I got a bunch of copies of the same book there last year for a church group at about 1/5-1/4 the price they were originally priced.  Another alternative is to put a thread in the Book Bazaar to ask anybody that has one to send you a PM, send it to you and you "gift" them a credit---if the PBS software won't let you order more than one, which I don't think it will, that would work, I think.  What is the book, by the way----I have about 650 books on my shelf, and if I have one of this one, I will do the above maneuver with you.  Maybe somebody else would see it on here, too, as well as an "ad" in the Bazaar.

If you had 6 people who you had as buddies... you could buddy them a credit and have them order the book using their account and have it mailed to you.  That would get all going at the same time, but you would obviously need to trust those folks :  )

I've ordered multiple copies of some of our favorite books before - no problem.  If I recall correctly, you will get a message that says, "You already have this book, dummy.  Are you sure you want another?"  (or something close to that).  You just click yes and go and order your books!

Unless they've changed it you cannot order multiple copies of the same exact ISBN, you can order multiple copies of the same title, but they must have different ISBNs. A few months ago we had a teacher that wanted the Ender's Game, I believe it was for her class for group reading. As Lita suggests, she posted that she needed help, and buddied credits to whomever would order a copy for her and have it mailed to her instead of themselves.

Amanda, that msg comes up when you've ordered another copy of a book that you PREVIOUSLY ordered. When you have one currently being processed, it will not allow you to order it.

you can, even if it pops up and says "you've already ordered this book' BUT  you need to let R&R know what you are doing... ordering more than one copy of a book at a time sends them a "red flag" and could get your account frozen.  Just go to feedback and let them know what you are doing and who you are doing it for, and they will make a note to ignore the "alarm" on your account.

I have ordered 2 copies at a time, I just open the Order This Book in different tabs and process them at the same time. I did this just 2 weeks ago. No different ISBN. I don't know if it would work for more than 2 copies though.

I will be happy to order one for you if you need the help :)

the book is 'the cay' and it's the one that has 34 copies available right now. i won't have the money for the credits until next week, though. hm, i wonder why they won't let you order more than one of the same isbn... i just figured you could.

ETA: i just sent R&R a note about this situation... we'll see what the higher-ups have to say! :)

for the record:

Dear Megan,

We are working on the ability to request multiple copies of the same book at one time for situations like this, but we don't have this feature available yet.  Currently, if you want multiple copies of an ISBN, you need to request the books one at a time.  When the sender of one copy has accepted your request, you should be able to put in the request for the second copy.

We do have 34 copies of ISBN 9780380010035 available in the system, so that ISBN would be the one you would want to request, if you need them all to be the same ISBN.  It could take a while to get 6 copies, depending on how quickly members respond; but it could also happen very quickly.

You might also try posting in the Book Bazaar Discussion Forum that you are looking for 6 copies of this ISBN and if someone who has this ISBN wants to make an "off-PBS" deal with you (you provide your mailing address and "buddy" the sender a credit following the instructions in the Help doc "How do I give credits to other members?" in the Help Center, and she sends you her copy of the book) this would be a way to speed this process up.

Have a great day! The PaperBackSwap Team
