If you turn down a request for a book because it doesn't meet the requestor's conditions and you explain why in the box given for that purpose, does the requestor get to see what you wrote as your reason for declining?

Yes, it's my understanding that the requestor will see your comment.  Hopefully a TG will confirm my thought.

From the help center:

  • If you click
    • you will have a chance to type an explanatory message to the requestor
      • this message will be included in an email from PBS telling her that the request has been declined.
      • This message is not for "negotiation" about the book request.
      • This message should not be unpleasant.  There is no need to be rude when declining a request.
    • If this book is on a Wish List, it will then be offered to the next Wisher
      • If there is no one else  Wishing for it, it will go back to your bookshelf to await another request.

Yes, the other member does see that message, so if you're declining because the RCs are unclear or unwieldy, be constructive in your commentary.

Yes, the book requestor will see it. That's who you are writing the message to.

Someone from PBS probably will never read it. (they have access to go looking if there is some type of problem, but they don't sit around reading transaction messages all day long).

Unless, of course, you don't feel like doing so. You are in no way obligated to take time out of your day to troubleshoot others' requester conditions.

If you don't feel like writing out an explanation for why the book does not meet the RC, put down "Does not meet RC."  That would be sufficient.
