"Resignation of Eve" by Jim Henderson, book review
Sub title :What If Adam's Rib Is No Longer Willing to Be the Church's Backbone?
Women often do the bulk of volunteer work in the church from child care to kitchen duty; Sunday School teacher to Vacation Bible School director. But are they appreciated? And basically they are excluded from decision making , holding elected office, or filling the pulpit. How do women feel about that? Not so good, according the Henderson.
Traditional roles are being openly challenged in the world and now the church. Is it a good move or not. "Resignation" shares stories of real world women dealing with the glass ceiling of the church. Statistics and examples seem to show woman are unhappy with the roles they are given in the church.
While we often feel that the Biblical examples may not be culturally relevent, and the role of women has definitely changed since Bible times, has the role of women changed so much? There are those that would argue both sides, and it is become a heated issue, dividing churches and denominations.
"Resignation of Eve" is quite thought provoking and should be read with the Bible as a companion.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from Tyndale publishers to read and review. All opinions expressed are my own.
