I've got the idea to enjoy Saturday lunch at local eateries and submit the review to newpapers that serve the surrounding towns. To date, I have written three, submitted to two different weeklies with no reply for a few months. I think they are well written but I am not a good critic of my own work. Is anyone out there willing to read a review and comment? |

You might wish to contact these papers and see if they are willing to accept reviews from people not on staff. If you have done any writing before and been published, write up a cover page with this information and send that long with your reviews (again) and ask them to contact you. Sadly alot of papers no longer just take reviews from random people. Try looking online for places that review restaurants, if they accept you, then you can use that as publishing credit. The more publishing credits you have the better chance the newspaper will take notice. From a readers point of view, please be honest about the food, if they serve large sizes and if the serving staff were professional. Pros and cons about the place is something most like to see rather then totally gushing over a place or hating it. Your welcome to PM me with the review and I can tell you if it sounds professional or not. |

Have you checked to see what these papers' submission guidelines are? If you haven't, I would poke around their websites and see what they say. Starting a local restaurant blog might be a fun idea for you, too. And I think Strunk & White's Elements of Style is invaluable. It is full of useful advice for writing clearly and well. |
