What a delightful book.
Sarah Perkins isn't quite what Luke Ferguson was expecting when he hired the school teacher. Luke thought the woman he hired was plain, meek, and world-weary. Despite her appearance in the photo in the picture that prompted his school board to hire her, she is definitely not weary or biddable. Therefore, what ensues is a spirited battle of wills between and a woman and an entire town. It's got an entertaining cast of characters and I found myself smiling at their antics and at times laughing out loud.
But for all it's levity, there is also a great tragedy that comes in the form of an atack on the small community by an indian war party.
However, as I said at the onset, I was very pleased with this book and glad to have found it.
