Richard the Lionheart Author:Antony Bridge Richard I (1157-1199) was King of England and a good portion of France which he had inherited from his parents, Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. A brave military commander and poor king, he left no heirs to his vast realm and the kingdom was inherited by his brother, John, also of the House of Plantagenet.
