ISBN 0590937138 - The title is vague enough to make me uncertain, when I first picked it up, whether it was fiction or non-fiction. It's non-fiction, something I haven't come across often enough in kids' books.

Each short chapter of this small book covers a mystery. It doesn't go into great detail, but gives the basics of the story, which is a nice way to whet the appetite of the reader. With any luck, the truly curious child will want to learn more about them and seek out more books devoted to specific mysteries mentioned here. They include the Tunguska Event, the Mary Celeste, UFOs, alien abduction, Stonehenge, Atlantis, Kaspar Hauser, the Bermuda Triangle, Oak Island, King Arthur, spontaneous human combustion and crop circles.

Some of these will be unknown even to adults, which can make searching out more information that much more fun! The book doesn't state any particular opinion, but presents the facts and theories of others, allowing the reader to arrive at their own conclusion.

Not the best book I've ever read on the topics, but a simple introduction. Likely to appeal to both boys and girls, and hopefully to encourage independent research and new interests in young readers.
