I really liked this! Beverly had a lot to overcome, and it was really admirable that she actually managed to do so. Honestly I don't think very many people in the same situation would do as well. I'd love to know how Jason is now, and how he felt about growing up with his mother. This was an easy and enjoyable read, which I found pretty absorbing. A book about someone having a hard time in life could have been a lot more grim, but it's not--and she has a nice writing style.

And now I know why I've seen other reviewers say that the book was nothing like the movie. From the previews I've seen, the movie is made out to be a light-hearted comedy/romance. This book was more about Beverly's personal journey and her relationship with her parents and her son--the "boys" who made the title aren't especially main characters here.

Very good book. Different from the movie in many ways and very good in a different way. The writer/main character isn't what you would cal heroine but she could be an inspiration to young women that are living a life that they don't want.

Donofrio's memoir is funny, moving, painful and inspiring. I love her simple style of writing and her brutal honesty.

Better than I thought. The story of a willfully bad girl who gets into trouble (including that age-old trouble of teen pregnancy) and pulls herself (and her son) through it.

This was really fun to read! I'm glad that it was different than the movie that way I was left with some surprises!
Beverly is definantly a very unique person, also a very determined one. She tells of her over protective father, passive mother, and her struggles of being a single young mother on welfare.
If you liked the movie, you will love the book!
