This is written in the classic 50s style, though set in early 60s, where social mores are followed and word games were popular. The only thing you want to watch for is the racial thread and the excessive use of the "N" word (based on today's no-tolerance policy) towards the end of the book. Otherwise, it's a fun read.

An excellent example of a murder mystery that looks at Whydunnit as well as Whodunnit, and an excellent example of Mr. Stout's writing. I quite enjoyed it both for the character development and the plot.

Nero Wolfe, always superb. 40's Manhattan, for those not familiar.
