Rio Grande Review Vol 30 Fall 2007 Author:Various The Rio Grande Review, a non-profit bilingual arts journal, is published twice a year by U.T. El Paso's Department of Creative Writing, and is entirely edited by the Bilingual MFA Program students. — "Being stationed on the border of Mexico and the United States, it would be naive and irresponsible not to address the reality of walls, both litera... more »l and metaphorical. This issue of Rio Grande Review is dedicated to that goal. Walls in both senses are barriers against the coming together of two entities, whether those entities be people, parts of ourselves or nations, as represented in the photograph on the cover of this issue, and although captured beautifully, is still the actual barrier that separates Mexico from the US. The nature of language is to communicate, to bring together to a place of common or near common experience. The use of art to create these spaces and break down barriers is in part the goal of this issue. But, it is also our intention to create awareness of walls we may not see in other aspects of our lives. It is with these ideas in mind that we hope you enter into this collection of art. We hope that these works may inspire you to break down barriers and from their ruin rebuild a foundation that is more powerful than any wall. Peace. -The Editors."« less
