Hi everyone,

Does anyone have suggestions for romance novels set during any U.S. war starting with and after the Civil War? I'm interested in both fiction and non-fiction, but no Harlequin books. More like books similar to Gone with the Wind or A Farewell to Arms. Thanks!

One Wore Blue, One Wore Gray, One Rode West-Heather Graham

The Prisioner Cheryl Reavis-probably my favorite of hers. It's a harlequin however-one of their historicals

Suzanne Brockmann and Catherine Mann for contemporaries.  Both have written categories-both have also written longer ones.

North and South by John Jakes  and sequels- set during the Civil War

Morning Glory by LaVyrle Spencer- WWII though set very much "on the homefront"

I would have to second John Jakes. North and South is a classic in that regard.

I would second Heather Graham's trilogy . . . especially One Wore Gray.  I absolute loved the hero, Daniel.  (sigh)

Ashes in the Wind . . . Katleen Woodiwiss
