Be careful Lori they are highly addictive.  If you've ever been to a white elephant Christmas ornament/gift swap-they're kind of like that only online and with books.

Jump right in Lori!  Swaps are really fun and you'll find a lot of familiar names on the player list.

I know for my first swap I asked the hostess to please make sure I wasn't one of the first few on the list so that I could see a few turns before I had to take mine just so I could see how it all works.  It was tons of fun!  Try a swap, bet  you'll like it.

I am playing in my first swap ever, and it really is fun!  It has taken me almost a year of being at PBS to work up the nerve to try one, but I'm glad that I did- everyone is so nice, and it has been exciting!  Give it a try, you won't be sorry!

Nope, not complicated at all.

The swap hostess sets a play order, randomizing the names of all the players in the swap.  First person then chooses someone else to reveal their swap book.  Then, the second person has the choice to steal the book revealed for the first person or to ask someone else to reveal their book for them.

If the second person steals the first person's book, then the first person gets to choose someone else to reveal a book.  Then, it's the third person's turn.  They can steal the first person or the second person's book or ask for another reveal.

Usually, a book is allowed to be stolen 3 times.  The third person to steal the book gets to keep it.

It's lots of fun and everyone's really good about helping out someone new to swaps.  All you have to do as a player is find a book that fits the theme of the swap, when it's your turn you have to decide if you want to steal a book or ask for a reveal.  If you steal a book, you send a PM to the person you stole it from to let them know to go again.  If you ask for a reveal, you PM that person whose book you want and ask them to reveal for you.  Someone will PM you when it's your turn or they want you to reveal your book for them.

Some swaps have extra rules thrown in but that's how a basic elephant swap works.

The games are a blast and a great way to get books that might not be available in the system-especially the WL swaps. I'm in 6 right now, which is very managable. I've been in as many as 14 at one time and that was a bit hectic! It does get addictive, definitely!
