Rough Justice Days and Nights of a Young D.A.
Rough Justice Days and Nights of a Young DA Author:David Heilbroner "If TV or the movies have ever made you wonder what a big-city prosecutor's life is really like, this book is for you. It is an eloquent, low-key account of the horrors, tumult, and constant pressures of a life where too many have done too much that is wrong, and those who seek to enforce the laws live in a neither world of their own. The ambi... more »guous relations between prosecutors and cops, the occasional humor of human misconduct, and the suppressed anguish of so many of the justice system's participants are all perfectly rendered. I read Rough Justice in a single sitting, impressed by its sane tone, its limpid prose, and its overall wisdom. It's a fine achievement." Scott Turow, author of Presumed Innocent« less
An OK overview of a young lawyer's three-yr commitment to work in the NYC D.A.'s office as a beginning prosecutor. I learned a lot about the inner workings and procedures of initial indictments. Also, the view of the courts, while a little jaded, is not inspiring. He emphasizes how overworked many within the system actually are. Not surprisingly, his decision at the end of the three years is to enter another line of work. His liberal bias shines through. Not perhaps a particularly good writer, but he does get his point across and has some yarns to spin!
