This is a well-written book. However, it is not a steamy romance. Our heroine marries an enlisted man in the army and follows him to the battlefield as England fights Napoleon. Along the way she finds he is not the charming man she thought she was marrying but an abuser who eventually auctions her off to the highest bidder. She, on the other hand, is the daughter of a country doctor and has learned much of his trade. She fills her time helping to treat the wounded and gains much support from both officers and enlisted men. One of them is a titled officer whose life she saves. I'll not spoil the whole story, but to say it does eventually have a happy ending. An engrossing read.
