Is anyone a runner here? Trying to get in shape? or a Master runner? a track junkie?  Marathons? 5k's, 10Ks, halfs? have a PR you want to shout out about? Rash's from fabric running? Gel or Gu or Shock Blocks? What type of shoe do you wear?  A bunch of buddies from one of the paranormal swaps have started to discuss shoes, knee problems, races etc... I run and would like to talk to people who do run...Does anyone have a goal this year? I would like to run 3 more half marathons and a 5k a month... depends on pocket book tho... Oh yeah.... love our paranormal books as well!!!

I am a total non-runner, but have you heard about the barefoot-running movement?  I just read Born to Run (from library) and it was fascinating!!

I'm a runner! I used to run a lot -- but last year I ended up having two knee surgeries due to a very rare disease (PVNS). Let me tell you, there is nothing worse than a runner who can't run! I'm getting back into it, but it has been slow and painful.

My goal is to do a 5K in the next month or so. The hard part will be to think about finishing, not about time! However, after not being able to run for so long, I am genuinly so thrilled just to be running!

I am a runner!

I've run three marathons so far, a few halfs and a slew of 5k's.  I just ran a 5k last weekend and finished under 20 minutes for the first time since high school, so I was mighty pleased.  (my PR in the 5k is 18:29, so I've a ways to go to set a new one).

Knock on wood, no serious injuries to date, but I'm still young.  I plan to train like hell this summer and run a marathon or two in the fall.  My marathon PR is 4:12 and I hope to break 4 hours next time around.

I can't stand the taste of Gu, I prefer Power Gels.  And I wear Nike.

My long range goal is to combine travel and marathons and run marathons all over the world.

New runner.  I'd been running on the treadmill for a little over a year, added track running and beach running, got up to 6 miles a day, then got sick and stopped for a few months.  I'm building my endurance back up and resuming outdoor running.  Problem: cannot find shoes that feel good! I run barefoot or in socks indoors, on the track, and on the beach.  I haven't found any footwear that I can run in on the roads.  Haven't run any marathons yet but maybe someday.  (If I can run them barefoot LOL)

Maria, I'm a runner, but haven't done any races since the Bolder Boulder a year ago in May. I LOVE Asics. They are my absolute favorite running shoes. I'm planning to get the new Asics Nimbus 11 shoes soon. I have the Nimbus 9's and love them. I believe good running shoes are definately worth spending the $$ on!

Lynne,

Have you checked out runningwarehouse.com?  They have some great tools for finding the perfect shoe for "you."

Lynn.. you definately need to find a good running store that knows what they are doing...You might also look on your local road runners web site and they may have links to local businessess or even email the site for a good recommendation .  I have had 5 toe nails removed due to sliding in my shoes.. but we have that all worked out now...SO shoes are important!!!  The store I usually deal with has a new ISTEP Computer Foot Analysis System. It will perform a FREE foot/Arch evaluation to match and customize athletic shoes and arch supports for the individual runner or athlete.  Now, it was interesting to have the test done and see the selection of shoes it offered me...

Wow.. I looked at the Boulder Bolder.. looks like a fun 10k and fast!!!!

The weather has finally cleared up and no rain... Yippeeee!!!! Yes.. I melt sometimes when I run in the rain...but will do it... UGH.. squishy squishy...

Thank you for the advice about shoes. Becki and Maria.  I'll take it.    Maria, that toenail story freaked me out.  Hope they grow back in healthily.

I studied and researched and decided to buy a new pair of Asics Gel Nimbus 11's.  My last 2 pairs were the 10's and the 9's.  I tried them on at Dicks' Sporting Goods and then decided to purchase them at Amazon.com because I had a few gift cards.  I got them the other day and they don't feel the same.  Do you think that they could be reject shoes?  They were $124 which is what they sell for in the regular stores.  (I paid $45 in the end - yipee!)  Anyway, I haven't been able to work out in them yet because of work, but I'm curious to see what you all think.

Shannon.. I am not sure.. I do know people who purchase their running shoes on line all the time and never have a problem or have sent them back with no trouble from the company.... I really couldn't tell you... I will run this by the running group and see what comes about it... My personal opinion is that they could be seconds from the distributer that is why you can get then for a lower price..(fantastic price tho) or depends on who cuts the pattern on what day also...Put them on and run around the house in them.. make sure there are no marks on them..if they still don't feel right.. send them back...

I have a race next sunday... The Women's 5k Festival... I will ask around..

Happy 4th and Happy Running!!

Thank you, Maria!  They were actually $124 from shoes.com, but they were offering $20 off and I had enough Amazon GC's that I only paid $45 of my own $$.  So, the price is the same as the other stores.  I teach tomorrow morning and I'm going to try them out.  If they are good, I'll give them a test "run" Tues morning.  :)

I am a runner!

I have always enjoyed running... December 2008 by in-laws bought me a treadmill for my brithday/Chrsitmas present (At my request!)  I have 5 little ones at home and can not get outside to run on most days so I run on my treadmill regularly!

My hope/dream/goal is to run a Marathon by my 35th birthday... I am 28 1/2 now so I am gettting in shape so I can do it and do it good!    =)

New to running here. I never thought I'd actually WANT to run anywhere :)

If you have iTunes, there is a podcast called Podrunner. It has very motivating music that will get you going and keep you moving! Each is about an hour long. l use them for cross training on my nonrunning days. Since I'm a newbie, I've also subscribed to the Podrunner Intervals podcast. I'm currently on week 2 of the couch to 5k series. My goal is to run my first 5k in September!

Hey Supermom and Wendy:

Supermom.. wow...I have 4 and trying to squeeze marathon training in is hard but can be done... I would recommend joining your local road runners group and see if they have a FTM program (First Time Marathoners). They would have one track workout and one long run on Sundays or a Saturday..you could get a bulk of your base miles on the treadmill but see if someone could watch the little ones for at least an hour and get some real road time in...(share the mommy time!!) I think I still have my FTM program in the computer if you are interested in reveiwing the schedule...I can email or pm you with it... Fantastic!!! I am excited for you!!  ALso, it is really cool to see your kids standing on the side line with raised signs that say "GO MOM and or GO Honey!!!" Dads/husbands get into also and it is really helps when they are supportive!!! If Mom is healthy and happy so is the family!!! Have you thought of maybe a half marathon to see if you really like running for 4 hours or so?? Half marathons are fun.. and half the distance and half the time.. 2 hours...I also had a complete check up before I started running the UBER miles... I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to drop over due to any heart problems...

Wendy!! welcome to running.. and thanks for the site...I will check it out.. sounds like a decent program for the ipod... I use Jogtunes for music.. and Runners world tunes, ANyone who even suggests a song, I check it out.  We did a woman's run this past sunday, a 5k, perfect weather, a little humid but no worries.. it was great!!! the graduation class of First Time Females were there...this was their reward, finishing a 5k!!! all shapes, sizes and ages (18 and up to 70!!) I remember being in that program!!! Whoo Hoo...Congrats Wendy.. I am excited for you as well...your first 5k!!! exciting and scary!! Let me know how your training goes...remember race day could have any weather condition, rain, humidity, blareing heat....prepare yourself and use that during your training... I don't particuarly care for running in the rain or drizzle, it is different.. and if you practice in the rain or a few runs during the day in heat could be to your advantage...but dress appropriately and take proper hydration and fuel and a cell phone with you...

I don't run outside with an ipod, well... I have, but only had one ear piece in. Running or training can get boring, I will agree on that !! BUT...You need to be aware of your surroundings when you run outside alone. This is my soapbox moment!!.... Anyone who runs.. just be aware of your surroundings at all times...Use your brain!!! Safety, safety, safety!!!!! Have a safe and  productive run!!! XOXO

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm finishing up week 2 today and starting week 3 on Friday. I'll definitely let you know how things are going. I have been keeping it to the gym for the most part. It's so hot down here (central Texas) but I know I need to switch it up before the big day. I did go running in the park one morning but it's already in the upper 80s by 8am. Next time I'll be more prepared.

Keep up the great work, Supermom! You can do it!!
