This a crime thriller in Mountain Air, New Mexico. It's opening night of the town rodeo and a policeman leaves and is killed. Cop Kevin Kerney investigates. Kerney suspects a schizophrenic man, Robin Cordova knows what happened, but he will not talk.

Time passes leaving this crime a cold case. Kerney is now the deputy chief of the state police. Expensive art is now being stolen. He now returns to take on an old nemesis.
