Ana, I don't know anything about the process, but maybe live help can answer your questions. Dolly

I don't know anything about that particular model, but with some scanners you need to install software on your computer so that the scanner can act as a keyboard emulator.  (Meaning that when you scan the barcode it will enter the numerical values on the screen.)  You can test if this is the issue or not by opening Notepad or Word and scanning a bar code - if it does not show as text (e.g. 97832428973824) then that might be the problem.  Also, does the scanner have a USB interface?  When you plug it in do you get a message that the hardware is installed and ready for use?

Reading the specifications for  your scanner, there does not appear to be a need to install software.   The manufacturer claims it is plug and play with the USB interface.

Do you have any other USB devices?    If so, are they working?    If one is working, remove it and use the same USB port to try your scanner.   It is not unheard of for a USB port to be either dysfunctional or not even connected.

If your USB interface recognizes a device then attempt a scan,  as mentioned above, Word, Notes or any generic word processing program should see the datat.

Did you buy the scanner new?   If so, I would go to Symbol's tech support.   If you didn't you can still try them, some companies support their product even if you purchased it used.

Don't despair, technology is not less complicated than 10 years ago, it is more so, plug and play never really materialized for many devices.

not sure what version of windows you are using but try this:

connect the scanner. wait for the unit to be recognized by the operating system.

do a windows update- select custom. see if any new drivers are available for the scanner.
