Safari Guide to East African Birds Author:Jonathan Scott When Jonathan Scott first came to live in Africa twenty years ago, he found that there were very few books aimed at the 'fledgling' ornithologist. Most of those available restricted themselves to describing the bird's appearance and habitat, while he was more interested in knowing details of its behaviour. He didn't just want to know where a b... more »ird lived, he wanted to know how it lived, what it ate and where it nested.
It was with this in mind that he compiled his own guide book entitled A Souvenior Guidebook to African Birds, first published in 1981, now revised and greatly expanded by Angela Scott, and completely reillustrated with Jonathan's superb photographs. This book describes over 270 species in 60 families, providing information on Identification, Voice, Habitat, Habits, Food and Nest. Examples of notable exceptions to generalized family characteristics are given, as are details of species which stand out because of size, colourfulness or distinctive behaviour. Some 250 photographs have been chosen with a view to making identification as easy as possible while emphasizing the beauty of the bird.« less
