Dr. Hilfiker's elegantly written true story of his years in a world of poverty as desperate as Calcutta's where the health care has little in common with mainstream medical practice, where the simplest remedies--bed rest, medication, idet--are beyond the grasp of his homeless patients, where burnout hovers, and where spiritual limitations becom eevident. But miraculously, Dr. Hilfiker and his dedicated colleagues DO make a difference. This book is a deeply moving testament to what is possible in an urban hell where hope is not even a memory.
