I loved 'Salem's Lot'  , I am picky about vampire books and don't like most of them, but I really liked that one.

I have never read any vampire book, this was my first one.  So far I think that is Kings best book.  But again I have not read much by him either.

This was one of the first novel's I've ever read. I think I was around 12-13. Good lord the book terrified me when I was a kid. When the newly turned Susan comes to the window asking to be let in I remember shaking as I was reading that.

It is a great horror book. It seems that most vampire books are now on the fluffy side, Salem's Lot will always be a personal favorite of mine. I'd love to see King do another vampire story. My personal favorite by Stephen King is The Stand but the Dark Tower series is truely epic and is the best "series" I have ever read or will ever read.

I read Salem's Lot when i was younger and it scared me i didn't think i would ever find a vampire book again. There's a book that throws in a enough true history mixes with the vampire gene to make you wonder what if its called Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame Smith this book will keep you thinking even when you are done a must read. Also a book called Snow dont let the title fool you its by Ronald Malfi a vampire zombie like in all my years of reading and watching horror i have never come across a book like this this is a WOW leaves you breathless.Robin

Robin thanks for the book suggestions.  I put Snow on hold at my library sounds like a good book.  Have you read any other  Ronald Malfi's books?

I am reading The Strain right now and it is really creepy. It is a very different take on the vampire genre, but it is plausible too. i think the feeling that it is something that could actually happen, is what makes it truly frightening.

Yes!  Salem's Lot will always be the best vampire book IMO and the best work of Stephen King.  I remember when I was in my early 20s and got an issue of Cosmo that contained a condensed version of Salem's Lot by "up and coming horror author King".  He made such an impression on me that I became a livelong fan then and there and ran out and purchased the HC.  I also wrote a fan letter to his publisher and received a signed letter of thanks from King.  That was the only time in my life that I felt compelled to write to an author.

I haven't read this one yet and know I think that you have convinced me to give it a try. I like most of Stephen Kings books and I loved the movie for Salem's Lot, both the old and new movie for it. I'll try reading it soon. Thanks for the post.
