I just read The Saucier's Apprentice: One Long Strange Trip through the Great Cooking Schools of Europe by Bob Spitz and I loved it! I would love to just pack up and take one long vacation in Europe. Maybe take some lessons in some of those infamous kitchens, but since that's not going to happen any time soon, I live vicariously. I hated having this "vacation" end and I read it too fast, just gobbled it down like a fancy french pastry and now I want more! Can anyone recommend some similar reads? I've already read all the Frances Mayes and Tim Parks books. I loved the recipes in this book and in Frances Mayes' books, so books with recipes would be a bonus. I'm up for reading any European travel memoir that comes recommended, but "foodie" books would be especially appreciated. Thanks!!

I've had The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry: Love, Laughter, and Tears at the World's Most Famous Cooking School :: Kathleen Flinn on my wishlist for some time and it might be something that you would like.

You might also like the Ruth Reichel books about being food critic. Garlic and Sapphires is one that comes to mind.

Wendy, I put the Flinn book on my WL. It's just what I'm looking for. There are some Reichel books available on PBS, so I'll check those out, too. Thanks for your recommendations!

Trail of Crumbs by Kim Sunee is mainly about the author's experience living in France in her early 20s. There are a lot of recipes included at the end of chapters.

Thanks Janelle! Put that on my WL, too. They're both pretty long waits, so I think I'll have to go out and buy them.
