There are many books about the American Civil War that purport to tell secrets, untold stories, scandals, or whatever tales that will help sell the books to a wider audience than Civil War enthusiasts. Most are disappointing and often relate false information.
This book was different. To my knowledge, everything it relates is true. I am extremely well read on the Civil War and many, if not most, of the incidents that the author of this book relates in a short chapter or a few paragraphs, have had much longer chapters or even entire books written about them. And, to be boastful, I have read most of those books.
I highly recommend this book to those who want to know the "rest of the story" about somewhat famous and infamous events and people in the American Civil War, if only because it might whet your appetite for the longer books on those subjects. But even it if doesn't, you will learn a lot about many of the people of the war and, hopefully, dispel some of the myths you grew up with by watching TV, movies or listening to stories told by people who should have known better.
