The Search For Bridey Murphy Author:Morey Bernstein This is the story of an experiment in hypnosis, how it came about, and its amazing results. It is a true story (a fact which makes it all the more amazing) that spans the bridge of time to a day in Ireland in 1798. But it starts in the present, one night in 1952 in Pueblo, Colorado, where Morey Bernstein, a young business man intensely interes... more »ted in hypnotism, was performing an experiment to explore a mystery of the mind.
His subject, a young woman named Ruth Simmons, had been put into a deep hypnotic trance in the presence of witnesses. A home tape recorder was turned on to record every step in the experiment, beginning with the age regression process which was a necessary prelude to whatever might follow. Bernstein didn't know what would follow, as he took his subject back to the age of seven, to five, to three, to one-and finally through the barrier of time itself. "I want you to keep going back," he told her, "back through space and time, and you will find that there are other scenes in your memory. . . in some other place, in some other time. . . now you are going to tell me what you see..."
What Ruth Simmons told is the life of Bridey Murphy. In the tape recordings made that night and during later experimental sessions, she was able to recall, in infinite detail, this previous existence in Ireland. Bridey was born in Cork, in 1798, grew up into a spirited miss with a saucy tongue who married a young barrister and moved to Belfast. She died at the age of sixty-six, after a life that was neither dramatic nor eventful but so filled with the wonderful details of living that, as you read it, you know Bridey Murphy must really have lived.« less
