I decide to look for a specific book and copy in the name of it into the search box.  My result is, there is nothing available.  So I start over and copy in the author.  I get results and the book I first wanted is right there!  Why isn't the search engine finding the book the first time I searched?

A search for books that include an apostrophe "s" or contractions like "don't" results in no results.  Why is the seach engine on this site so bad?  There have been many times I have had to search for a book a few different ways in order to find it.  I finally find it right there on your site, just as I asked for it in the first place.  It's irritating.  In this day and age, it is riduculous that a busy site such as yours would have such incomplete results to a search.

This is a pretty wonderful, organized site, except for the search engine.  I am paying you $20 a year to use this site, please tell me you are using some of that money (and from many, many others) to update the way the site does searches.  And that you will have it done soon.    thanks,,,

This was an unexpected side effect of the update back in February. There was a test that showed that the old search would work with the update. The update was applied. The old search engine did not play nice with the update.

Since then, PBS has been working on it, finding and fixing bugs and problems.

There is a thread to report what we have found. And updates from PBS on the progress.

(The updates are over in CMT and have red megaphones.)
