Is there a way to search for a bookshelf to find multiple books by the same author?  I want to order a couple of books by the same author and dont want to have to order from 3 different people to get them...save everyone some postage if you could order all from one.

Thanks!

The only way I know of to do this is to search the shelves of boxers, but then you are limited to just those who participate in Box of Books.  You can also go to the appropriate genre forum and see if they have a thread where people can request non WL books that they are looking for- for example, the Love and Romance forum  has one of these.  I would not post a separate thread in the genre forum for this, however- if you want to do that, the Book Bazaar is the place for that.

I think you can also post the request on the bb or genre forums - let them know what you are looking for and that you would like to keep to 1 or 2 senders.  To swap with a boxer you would need to become a boxer as well.   If they are WL books you can't ask unless you are 1st in line for that book.  Also in the genre forums make sure you post in the appropriate threads.   Generally red sticky at the top , but some will a thread created each month with is this on your bookshelf or something similar.

You can start by ordering a book from someone (in the FIFO), then click the "Order More from Member" button, and see if they have anymore. If they don't, the go back and cancel the order, if you don't take over an hour looking, they will never know, since there is that one-hour waiting period.

You can even ask for a deal if you find a lot from one person, but don't expect them to be interested or even have a clue what you are talking about, if they are not a forum participant. Those who don't visit the forums, don't have a clue when you ask them if they would be willing to do a 2/1. Sometimes they think you want to trade 2 of your books for 1 of theirs, and then let you know if they find any books of interest on your shelf! hahahahaha, just had that happen to DH.

jubead, you do not have to be a boxer to swap with a boxer.  You can still order from their shelf just as you would any other PBS member.  The OP is not talking about swapping books for books, just making a multiple order from one member.

Edited to add, maybe I should explain how this works.  Go up to Community and click on Box of Books.  You can search all boxers by title, author, etc.  If you type in the author's name in the author field, all boxers who have books by that author come up, with a count of how many books by that author they have.  You can't search the general membership this way- only boxers.  But it's one way to find members with multiple books by the same author.  Then you can just order directly from their shelf.

Thanks for all the help so far!

With regards to this info  "You can start by ordering a book from someone (in the FIFO), then click the "Order More from Member" button, and see if they have anymore. If they don't, the go back and cancel the order, if you don't take over an hour looking, they will never know, since there is that one-hour waiting period."

Since the system works on FIFO how is it possible to order and cancel more than once?  Wouldnt it just keep going back to that same person each time you cancelled because they would be "First In"

Lesley - The boxer idea worked great.  Found the ones I wanted from the second person on the list!  Thanks!

Shawn, you are right that it would only work once, so it's not really a great idea, is it? Hmmm... but the boxer idea certainly is. And, hey, I have lots of books by the same authors, I'd even make you a deal. Top that with, you could combine deals with myself and my hubby's shelf. You'll find the link to his shelf in my profile. Thought I might as well throw that in, hey, never know, we might just have some of your favorite ones :)

What I've done before is opened more than 1 window to PBS, on one Order 1 of the books and on the 2nd order another of the books: then hit the Order More From Member button to see if they have any of the others you are looking for as well.

Actually, Sherry, your idea is a great one.  I do it all the time.  If there are three books I want, I'll check the first one FIFO and see if the person has either of the other two.  If not, I cancel/back up and check the second one to see if that person also has the first or the third.   And so on....I can usually find at least two of them using this method...especially if I'm not in a big hurry and can wait until the FIFO cycles to somebody else if none of the first group has multiples.

Lesley - miscommunication -.  Never meant to to imply that you could not swap with someone who was a boxer.    I was referring to the swaps boxers are allowed to make.   Sorry that wasn't clear.

There's also a thread in the bazaar by the month - something like multiple books by the one author that you could "thumb" through.  Many time those folks are willing to do a deal on the books.  Oh, I gotta update!

You can't find a list of boxers but you can search the shelves of boxers.  Just hover over the "community" link at the top of the page and then choose "Box O Books" and click on that.  That takes you to the search for just BOB members.
