Once you are in a particular thread, can you sort it by date?  I don't care about threads from 2 years ago and want to see more of the current stuff.  Thanks!

Nope, you cannot sort threads.

But all forums have the most recent threads in the first page so if you want to see recent stuff, you can start there.

Threads get bumped up as people post to them and moved down as people stop posting to them. So if there's a 2yr old thread on the 1st or 2nd page it's because people are still actively posting on them.  Otherwise they just keep getting moved further and further back.  Sometimes people will resurrect really old threads for no apparent reason or because they felt they should start a new one. I'd rather people start a new one then revive an old one.
