Wow! I'd already read the book, but I still really enjoyed this audiobook. One day I listened to way too much at once -- I heard Jenna Lamia's voice in my head for hours afterward. (This performance earned her a 2003 Audie award nomination for Best Solo Narration.) Her reading made a few things jump out at me that I'd glossed over before.

Such excellent prose. Read in an accent that changed my Texan to Carolinian for days.

This is one of my top ten favorite books! Well written, with lots of characters to make you laugh and cry. I buy this book for young people in my life.

For once, a book as good as the hype. The narration is exceptional, and the story is universal. Set in the South in the 60's, right after the passing of the civil rights act, this story is a particularly good one to read now - as our country takes another giant step forward....
