Nancy Drew First book in Series by Carolyn Keene
I was a huge Nancy Drew fan and loved her mysteries. Since my library has many books that I read as a child, I thought I'd revisit some of them.
Nancy Drew meets some older women who are taking care of their great niece. They tell her a story of a relative who recently died. He told them he would leave them money in his will, but the will that was recently read left them penniless. Nancy believes there may be a more recent will and is determined to find it.
The story was simple and fast moving. I was surprised that the dialogue seemed so formal. Most people do not speak that way. Still, it was an entertaining mystery. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
I was disappointed when I read this book. I found the Hardy Boys series (the originals) and the Tom Swift Jr. Series (the originals) much better.
Written by Mildred Wirt Benson THE SECRET OF THE OLD CLOCK was first published in 1930. It was the first book in the Nancy Drew series.
Nancy's fashion sense includes gloves; and she always seems find time to whip up a credible meal from scratch for friends. This particular story finds Nancy involved in a search for a missing will. She is assisted in this by her father, who is a noted attorney, and by her older friend Helen Corning. As her investigation progresses she not only finds herself at odds with unworthy heirs, but confronting furniture thieves as well.
These 1930 books were much better written than the later ones.
