This book consists of two previously published books. The first book, "Secret Star" is probably the last third of a trilogy. It does not hold up well as a stand alone. There is a lot of time spent on explaining the back story, but it still isn't enough to explain to the reader so I felt I kept missing the point of some of the plot.
The second book was okay, if the reader keeps in mind that it was originally published in the mid 1980's so there is some severely dated content. The male protagonist smokes and is kind of a jerk. The second book is the better of the two.
