The story of Louis Braille. It was a boy, not a man, who devised the ingenious system of reading and writing used by the visually handicapped. When Louis was almost four years old, he blinded himself with a sharp awl he found in his father's harness shop. But the instrument that caused his tragic accident later helped Louis to solve the problem of reading. Set against the backround of the turbulent time in which Louis Braille lived- 1809-1852, Seeing fingers tells the inspiring story of a determined young French boy's adjustment to blindness and the achievement of his greatest wish: to read books. With his six dot code, Louise Braille opened the door of universities and libraries and made available the trades and professions of a sighted world to those who read by touch and see with their fingers.
Hardcover copy with dustcover. Great!
