Once in a while, makes ya wonder if there's a problem with the zip code or barcode/encoding.

Can you set that to music? It has a nice beat.

Sometimes you wonder about the magical mystery tours some books make.  I recently sent a book from Asheville, NC to a town in Kentucky.  A trip of maybe 300 miles.  The book traveled to Long Beach, CA.  After spending a long weekend in CA, the book traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio and then to KY.  Talk about the long way around.  Another time I mailed a book from Asheville, NC to Jacksonville, FL.  The book traveled east to Greensboro, NC and then southwest to Atlanta, GA and then northwest to Memphis, TN and then to Jacksonville.  I just shake my head over the travels some books take.

Greensboro is a hub for east coast mail, so a lot of it goes through there.  As for your other one, Sarah, I have no idea!

I once had a book that really didn't need to go very far detour through the Virgin Islands.  Lucky paperback!

I sadly see stuff like that more often than I'd like.  Jersey City is a huge sorting center, and its a black hole for media mail.  I once had a book  go from Jersey City to Bell California, then go back to Jersey City then to Bell and back to Jersey City where it sat for 2 or 3 weeks before going back to Bell and then on to the recipient in Nevada.  I also had one go from Jersey City, a little over and hour north of me, to Michigan before it went to its destination in Maryland.

Or maybe the daemon in the post office computer just says those things to make us grateful when our books finally do arrive?

I had a whole series of books go to the Virgin Islands first. No idea how that happened, because once they leave Alaska, they sit in Federal Way in WA until everyone has had a chance to read them. Then they move on.

I once had a book go all the way to someone's address, then it was returned to my address, for no reason, and then went back. When I asked my mailman why this would happen he told me the has gotten books from me that he picked up back a week later and he doesn't even bring them because there is no reason marked and everyone disavows all knowledge.

Holy cow!  It's no wonder the PO is going broke when they have that kind of mismanagement.  Three trips for the price of one!
