I found through the Book Bazaar a member who was offering a 4 for 1 deal on kid's books. I found 4 I wanted on her bookshelf and PM'd her with the titles. She told me to go ahead and order one and she would put the others aside, which I did. I only received the one book that I ordered and not the "feebies". I PM'd her and asked if she just forgot or was sending separately or what? She replied promptly that she "forgot" and would send out shortly. I waited 2 weeks and checked again - her bookshelf was on hold. OK, maybe she's on vacation. I waited another week or so and PM'd her again and asked if she ever got the other 3 in the mail to me. She replied she had been having computer problems and was now backed up on getting to business but she "would check" and get back to me.  Me, waiting. Nothing.

I PM'd her again 2 weeks later and said that I still saw the books listed on her bookshelf and was wondering why she hadn't pulled them and mailed them to me yet. Her reply "I will check into". Me waiting. Nothing. My last PM to her after another week or 2 said "I get the feeling you have no intention of sending these books to me". No reply. Now what?

Obviously, I am out my "freebies". But I am mad and feel scammed. The only reason I ordered from her was because of the deal she offered. Has anyone else had problems getting deals through the book bazaar like this? I have gotten a few other deals come through with no problem. I just can't believe this member is doing this intentionally.  Even if she would just be honest and say something like "hey, I can't afford to mail the others out right now" or something, I would feel better - I think. Your thoughts anyone?

Thanks.

All you can really do is submit this via the contact link, PBS would probably want to shut down her thread in the bazaar if she's not honoring her deals.

Well there's not much you can do about a deal like that going bad.  THe only thing to do is to report her to PBS.  If there's been other complaints they might suspend her account. Or they might send a warning which could prompt her to send the freebie books she promised.

ETA: I've ordered a lot of books through deals in the bazaar (one reason my TBR is over 600) and have never had a problem.

Definitely use the "contact us" link to send the PBS team a note about this person so it's on record.

I'd be tempted to watch for this person's posts in the Book Bazaar and post on any deal thread she started that the member failed to follow thru on a deal in the past so other people are warned about her.

I wanted to give an update to this discussion thread. I took the advise of some members here and reported this person via the Contact Us link. Within hours, I had my credit back and this member who did not honor her book bazaar offer was basically "shut down" - there is a message when you click on her bookshelf that says "this member has been suspended" or something along those lines.

I had found another member who also got ripped off by the same book deal this person offered. I had emailed her to find out if she ever got her free books and she had not either - she was getting the same runaround from this "bad" member. She emailed me last night and said she also got her credit back from that deal. I did not give this 2nd member's name when I reported the "bad" member, but somehow they must have followed the book bazaar thread or something or maybe can see our PM's to each other?? In any event, I was QUITE IMPRESSED by the response from this club.

It's too bad there are members out there who have to take some of the fun out of this club -- but my faith is restored in this system! So, to anyone else out there who got ripped off by a book bazaar offer -- take action and report the member. We don't need those types to be on this site. :)

I am glad that it worked out for you! I had dealings with someone like this in the Bazaar. I ordered two books on a 2-1 deal. This means I should have gotten the two books and two free, right? WRONG! I got the two books that I spent my credits on - no free books and one of the books that I did receive was RWAP. I contacted PBS and have received nothing back. The person I was dealing with stated that they had mailed the free books after I filed, but nothing ever arrived. They also disputed the RWAP and refused to refund my credit. I am glad to see that it worked out for you though!

The PBS team can read all PMs, even ones you've deleted.  My guess is they got several complaints about this member and her "deals".  That's why it's important to report it so they can shut down people that don't follow thru.

They don't do that in all cases. But like Sarah said it's important to report it because if they did it to more than one person then they can get them outta here.  So someone else must have complained about her and they confiscated her credits.
