I know that media mail regulations prohibit sending any advertising with the books, but if I were to include a promotional flyer in a package of books (sent first class), would that be allowed according to PBS rules?

I may be mistaken but, the issue with sending advertising/promotional flyers is not so much a PBS issue but, a USPS regulation regarding Media Mail.  I think that if you sent it First Class there wouldn't be any problems.

To be honest though...if this is something you are wanting to promote like a business, political, etc...I for one just take all that stuff, unread and dump it in the trash...so, that might not be the most profitable way to advertise.

While I agree, and some flyers don't bother me at all (and a few times I've gotten things that were clearly used as a bookmark) I'd also not promote your business through flyers in books sent out.

Eric--

Per the Help Center:

"Including inappropriate materials with your books will jeopardize your membership at PBS."

and

"Commercial use of the site is prohibited."

Per the Terms of Use:

"This Site and the associated service are to be used for non-commercial purposes only. Commercial use of the Site or associated service is absolutely prohibited and constitutes a breach of this contract, giving rise to substantial damages.  Commercial use will result in immediate cancellation of service and forfeiture of credits."

I'd say including flyers in outgoing books would be inappropriate here, media mail or no.

Cheers,

Catt

I've founds some odd things in some of the books I've received -- business cards and flyers and whatnot.  I try to give them the benefit of the doubt as I throw the "bookmarks" in the trash -- unread.  :-)

Catt, that was what I was looking for, but I didn't find it in the help sections. I guess I was looking in the wrong place. Thanks.

I was actually thinking of sending a promotional 'coupon' with the books I mailed.  Say, next time you order from me you get a book free, or something like that, as long as you have the coupon code (that I will have written down and saved so that not just anyone can redeem), or something like that.  I just haven't gotten around to it yet, haha.
