How do you send a PM to someone when you are at the "does the book meet the requestor conditions" stage of a transaction? I had the same book get requested three times (so far) which did not meet the conditions of this one particular PBSer, and I spelled out the reasons why I could not send it each time. The third time, I clicked that it did meet the requestor conditions and then canceled the trade just so that it would show up in my Transactions Archive where I could PM the member. It would be a lot easier if I could have PMed the member before denying it three times.

Awaiting the fourth request for this book....

I always have a PM button on the request...because I always check out their bookshelf and WL and hopefully profile to tell me where they are.  I've never PM'd anyone before I accepted.  But I think that the way you handled it was correct.

PBS does not show the identity of a requestor until the request has been accepted.  There is no way to find out in advance who the request is from before acceptance, unless their requestor conditions include their name/nickname.  (Some do, mine does).

Otherwise, you have to do it the way you handled it...

I believe the standard is to accept, PM, then make a decision to continue with the transaction or cancel.  Unfortunately this isn't entirely simple, because if you cancel your book will be removed from your shelf and out of the FIFO line, and if they cancel when they re-request they'll get your copy again (though you'd be able to say it didn't meet their conditions then).  It's not something that can be done on your side, but what I've done is included my nickname in my conditions so that, if they feel the need to, Senders can send me a PM.  It's saved a bunch of swaps that might have otherwise been refused and hasn't really failed me yet.

I also include my nickname in the RC section...

Before I did that, people would usually accept, then PM me.  Luckily I haven't had to cancel any swaps... When I started noticing various threads about this same question, that is when I went ahead and added my nickname to the RCs.
