I got a pm:  Just realized that I sent you the wrong book. Still a book on rocks and minerals, but not the one you requested.

I have another person who is requesting the book I sent you. So, here's what I can do:
send you the correct book, and when you get the other one "Complete Guide", you can send it on to the correct person.
Or you can keep the one I sent, and I'll send the other one to her.
Please let me know- and sorry!

I sent:  which did you send to me? I haven't seen it yet but I ordered a ton and might not recognize it.

and now: You ordered "Eyewitness Books: Rocks and Minerals". What I sent you is "The Complete Guide to Rocks and Minerals" by John Farndon. I contacted the other person, and she's fine receiving either book as it is for her son.  So, it's up to you. You can just accept the book I sent, which you should receive any time now. Or, when you get it, you can send it on to her, and I will send you the eyewitness book with a reimbursement for the postage on the other one.  Please let me know as I am waiting to send her books until I hear back from you.

I'm unsure what to do.  Accidents  happen, so I can understand and I'm happy she figured it out before I had to figure out what happened.  But I don't want to send the other book & hope she sends the postage.  I guess I could write "return to sender" when it arrives but then I might still end up out my credit if I don't get the 2nd copy I actually wanted.

...send you the correct book, and when you get the other one "Complete Guide", you can send it on to the correct person.

This the best option usually. Have her give the address and funds to cover postage (usually people just give a credit), then send the book on to the correct member when you get it.  When you receive the correct one, mark it received.

I would think she could refund your credit (which would equal covering postage), plus send you the new book.  Once you are "whole", then mail the book to the address she provides.

I would tell her that I'd be happy to forward the incorrect book on to the correct person if she would like to buddy me a credit to cover postage.  Get the credit up front before you do this.  By all means, do not mark the wrong book received when you get it!  If it is not the book you ordered, you are not obligated to mark it received.  If you don't receive the book you ordered, it will eventually be marked lost in the mail by the system, you will get your credit back, and another copy will be ordered for you (assuming there are other copies in the system).

I would advise you not to write "return to sender" on the package.  If it was sent media mail, it may not be returned to the sender, as the PO does not forward media mail.

Don't write return to sender on Media Mail.  This only works on First Class Mail.

What Leslie said.  And Scott makes a good point about keeping pm's until the situation resolves.

Unfortunately, swapping book titles at this late date could add additional difficulties down the road.  Keep it simple and as close to PBS guidelines as possible.

Do not forward the book until you have been reimbursed for postage, and do not mark the book received until the correct book is actually in your hands.

You should do what Scott said, but you do not have to wait for your book to arrive to send on the wrong one.

1. When you get the wrong book, PM her back, ask for a credit to cover the postage, and mail the book to the other person when you get it. Don't mark that book anything in PBS.
2. If she sends you the correct book, then mark it received on the regular book order.
3. If she does not send you the correct book, then it will go lost and you will get your credit back.

If she does not send you a credit (or stamps in the mail, or whatever) to cover the postage, then you keep the wrong book. And you will get your credit back from your original order if the right one never arrives.
