I messed up big time I guess. I sent several books out but when the "book has been sent" button came up I thought it automatically marked it as sent so I never clicked it. Now, I sent all the books out but they have all been cancelled. I'm new and I guess I really messed things up already. What can I do???

Sue, send a personal message to each of the requestors for your books ASAP and let them know what happened. They may be able to cancel the second order if the sender of that book has not printed the label or mailed the book.

Those you sent the books to can still mark them received through their transaction archives. But if they received a second book they do not need to give you a credit.

If anyone else is dealing with this, there's wording in this help doc that you'll find helpful when you contact the requestor.  It explains what the requestor will be seeing on his end, and what he should do:

My request was canceled but I already mailed the book!

This happened to me once. I forgot to mark some books mailed, so, I messaged the people (there were 3, I think), and asked them for the credit since I mailed them the book. Not one person was honest enough to give me the credit. So I chalked it up to experience, and will NEVER forget to mark mailed again!

If the books in question were ordered off your bookshelf, it could be that each person already had another book order for those books fulfilled. Meaning that they paid a credit to a 2nd person who was given the book order automatically when yours were cancelled.

If they received 2nd copies of the books ... then they didn't owe you a credit.

If you were able to PM any of them in time to cancel those 2nd book orders, then it would have been proper for them to cancel those 2nd book orders (provided they could still cancel them) and give you the credit when the books were received.

It's all in the timing though ... if you don't send the PMs right away letting someone know that you mailed a book but forgot to mark it mailed ... then it's very likely that those 2nd copies were already on the way.

Same thing just happened to me. I literally had a dream that I clicked the 'sent' button... and it was only too late that I realized I hadn't.

I messaged the person immediately, once I got the dreaded 'canceled' message, but I've had no response. Here's hoping.

I'm on the other end of the situation. I ordered a book, the member sent me a PM to let me know it that it was in the mail, but never marked the book mailed. I even sent a PM within an hour of hers to remind her to mark it mailed, but she never did.  Fortunately hers was the only copy in the system, so when it went to my WL, I just put it on hold for now.  I've yet to receive a PM from this person even though the system shows that she did, indeed read the PM. I will, of course, make sure this person gets credit if/when the book arrives, but I don't understand why she didn't either mark it mailed or at least reply that she had forgotten.
