I've recently discovered L Spencer and love her work. This is a contemporary book. Very well written and I was riveted to the story of two people who have to work out a situation. Their relationship developed in a gradual, believable way and I knew they were meant to be together. Loved it.

From the Los Angelos Times: "A 'must read' for anyone who has lived and loved."

This was a really good romance. I'm not so good at reviews, so I will quote from the book's summary.

"The wedding of Catherine Anderson to wealthy Clay Forrester is the social event of the season. But everything abou tit, from the formal vows to the magnificent reception, is a lie. Catherine, a college student from a poor and troubled family, is pregnant after a blind date with Clay, a wealthy law student. And it with great reluctance that she agrees to his offer of a 'marriage of convenience.'

Catherine and Clay plan to divorce after the baby arives. They move into a lovely home and settle into an acceptable routine, until Clay announces that he no longer wants seperate beds. When Catherine reminds him of their arrangement, Clay angrily begins seeing his high society ex-girlfriend. It's not until after their daugher is born and divorce papers are filed that Catherine finds herself falling in love with Clay, wondering if it is too late to actually be more than his wife in name only."

I read this book years ago when the theme was more relevant to the times. It was the first Lavyrle Spencer book I ever read. I was hooked! The characters were very believable. I felt their pain and they also made me so frustrated. This is one of my favorites of all the books she wrote! Great quick read!

I loved this book! Like all of Spencer's books, it is so easy to read. The story just flows and unfolds very naturally. The characters could be someone you know or maybe even yourself. The confusion, anger, despair, desire, and conflicted feelings are portrayed very realistically. I have read tons of romance and erotica, but in my opinion this book includes one of THE sexiest love scenes ever. I'm not sure what makes me think that, maybe because it seems like real life instead of make believe fantasy, unattainable romance, or hard core porn. I have read this book many times.

From AudioFile
Liz Dykhouse's emotional tone brings to life this story of romance between Clay Forrester and Catherine Anderson. Clay, a wealthy law student, and Catherine, a studious undergrad, have one momentous night together when they meet on a blind date. Several months later, Catherine informs Clay that she is pregnant with his child. Catherine's stubborn stoicism in her desire to raise her child alone is revealed through Dykhouse's cautious, defensive tone. Further, Dykhouse's deep, sometimes caustic, voice betrays Clay's confusion concerning his impending fatherhood and the life-changing decisions he faces. Dykhouse's mellifluous vocalization highlights the beauty of this timeless story of the power of love.
