wow- very well researched
the best way to show the depth of this book is to list the table of contents
the nature of a serial killer: in our midst; phases; diseases; today; anatomy of a serial murder case (murderer, victims, community); police
the personal statements of 5 serial killers- stories of their lives and crimes in their own words: henry lee lucas; carlton gray; bobby lee long; leonard lake; charles manson and serial killers in groups
the unifying patterns of a serial killer: new criminologist; inside the brain; profile; conclusion
i have read many, many books (150+) about serial killers in general and specific serial killers. i can honestly say that in my opinion- of all of this type of books i have read- this book is in the top 10.

A great overall covering of why we have a growing number of serial killers and how as a society we are focused on the punishment more than the why of these crimes. Takes to task the fact that by focusing on punishment we never learn what to look for in a person who may have these tendencies. They walk amoung us, looking and acting like normal humans, but have a dark, twisted side that should be explored to get to the root of the issue.
