A priceless relic has been delivered to the Emersons. But more than history surrounds this golden likeness of a forgotten king, for it is said early death will befall anyone who possesses it.
The woman warns that the cursed statue has already killed her husband. Now Amelia Peabody and her loved ones are plunged into a storm of secrets, treachery, and murder by the widow's strange story and stranger request. Each step toward the truth reveals a new peril, suggesting this curse is no mere superstition. And the next victim of the small golden king could be any member of the close-knit clan--perhaps even Amelia herself.
This is another page turner. You can't wait to find out what is going to happen to the family.
Excellent! Amilia Peabody is at her finest on this one.
What a great read. Always the surprises, twists and turns, almost suspects and in it all the wonderful characters of Peabody, Emerson and family. Couldn't put it down.
Amelia Peabody, the matriarch of a world-famous family of adventurers and archaeolgists, helps solve a mystery involving a beautiful, but supposedly cursed, golden statue. Based in the VAlley of the Kings where the famous Pyramids are located, this story takes place at the time Carter is also researching the area and will later discover King Tut's tomb.
If you like this series, then you'll love this one. Same scenario, same people (Peabody, Emerson, Ramses, Nefret and Cyrus) but different mystery and different tomb in the Valley of the Kings. Of course, you know someone is going to be in mortal danger - no difference here. As predictable as it is, it's enjoyable anyway. I love the edition of Ramses and Nefret's four year old twins. They're a hoot!
Exciting and indearing,I can't wait for more.
This was my first Amelia Peabody book, and it will not be my last....now that I have been introduced to the delightful characters in this series, I feel as though I have to go back and learn all about them, from the start ! The narrator was outstanding...so many characters so many voices !
