My 1st Faye Kellerman novel & I plan to read more. I've never come across Orthodox Jewish detectives before & the culture is worked into the plot quite naturally. A good mystery.
Serpent's Tooth is something of a surprise because Faye Kellerman's mysteries are usually so upfront and personal.... here she deviates from her formula by putting Decker in charge of a mass murder at a fashionable L.A. eatery. The scope of the investigation is broad and the moralizing is kept to a minimum, giving Decker a rare chance to do some solid police work.
I just received this book on Friday in the mail and couldn't wait to read it! I had to finish the book I was reading but I read this in a 24 hour period. No, I did sleep too. :) A psycho guns down patrons at a posh restaurant in Los Angeles, killing 14 and wounding around 30 others. To Peter Decker's Homicide Division team, things don't add up when the evidence is tagged - it appears there were two shooters not just the one who committed suicide. The investigation takes them into the world of the wealthy; their country club, their private prep school, their spoiled teenagers. They all know who masterminded the slaughter but proving it seems unsurmountable. Great book - it is exciting and well-written as all of Ms. Kellerman's books are. The added benefit is more of Rina, Peter and their children's interaction. Love this series!
The novel begins with a horrific mass murder in a fashionable restaurant. Lieutenant Decker is put in charge of the investigation and he starts to uncover the layers of corruption involving many of the victims and their family members. This thriller has good character development and a strong story line. If you are a mystery buff, you will love this suspensful novel! Warning--some foul language used gratuitously.
